Life Transitions & Grief

Grief and Life-Transition Therapy in
Portland and Central Oregon

Loss and change reshape a life. Therapy gives you room to feel it, make sense of it, and figure out who you are on the other side.

Loss Changes You.
That Deserves Space.

Grief doesn't follow a schedule, and it isn't only about death. The end of a relationship, a health diagnosis, losing a home, a role, a version of your future you were counting on: all of it is loss, and all of it deserves more than "you should be over this by now."

Life transitions carry their own weight even when they're chosen. A career change, a move, becoming a parent, leaving a faith community, watching your identity shift under you. Our therapists walk alongside you through it, without rushing you toward silver linings you're not ready for.

A quick note: therapy is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7, or visit our crisis resources page.

There's No Right Way
to Grieve

Grief work isn't about getting over anything. It's about building a life that can hold the loss, at whatever pace that takes. Some people need to tell the story many times. Some need help with the practical weight of a changed life. Some mostly need one hour a week where they don't have to perform being okay.

Transitions work is similar: part processing what's ending, part finding your footing in what's beginning. Your therapist will follow what you need rather than a script. Sessions are available in person in Portland, Milwaukie, Bend, and Redmond, and across Oregon via telehealth.

Making Therapy
Accessible

Sessions are $175 per hour for individuals, including children and adolescents, and $200 per hour for couples and family sessions. We accept several major insurance plans, including Aetna, Providence, Regence, Anthem, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are not currently able to accept Oregon Health Plan (OHP). Before you begin care, you also have the right to a written Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs.

Is grief counseling only for when someone dies?

No. Grief follows any significant loss: a relationship, your health, a job, a home, a future you'd planned on. If it feels like loss to you, it qualifies. You don't need to justify it.

How long does grief therapy take?

There's no standard timeline, and we won't pretend there is. Some people come for a few months around an acute loss. Others work longer, especially when a loss stirs up older ones. You and your therapist will check in regularly about what you need.

What does it cost, and do you take insurance?

Individual sessions are $175 per hour. We accept several major insurance plans, including Aetna, Providence, Regence, Anthem, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are not currently able to accept Oregon Health Plan (OHP). See our insurance and pricing page for details.

I'm not sure what I'm feeling counts as grief.

That uncertainty is common, and it's welcome in the room. Plenty of people arrive saying some version of "I don't know why this is hitting me so hard." Figuring that out together is a completely legitimate place to start.
