What happened to you mattered. Trauma therapy, including EMDR, is a place to process it at a pace you control, with a therapist who builds safety first.
Trauma isn't only about what happened. It's about what your mind and body are still doing to protect you from it: staying on high alert, going numb, avoiding reminders, reacting to the present as if it were the past. Those responses made sense once. When they outlive the danger, they start costing you.
Trauma-informed care at True You means a few concrete things. You control the pace. We build safety and stability before we go anywhere near the hard parts. And you never have to narrate every detail of your story to work on how it's affecting you now. Some of our approaches, like EMDR and somatic work, are designed for exactly that.
Trauma therapy is available in person in Portland, Milwaukie, Bend, and Redmond, and across Oregon via telehealth.
A quick note: therapy is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7, or visit our crisis resources page.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a structured and extensively researched approach that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their grip on the present. It doesn't require you to talk through every detail of what happened, which is part of why many people seek it out.
At True You, EMDR is offered by Sarah Richin, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who pairs it with DBT skills in her work with teens and adults on trauma, anxiety, and eating disorders. If you're specifically looking for EMDR, mention it when you book and we'll match you with Sarah directly.

Sessions are $175 per hour for individuals, including children and adolescents, and $200 per hour for couples and family sessions. We accept several major insurance plans, including Aetna, Providence, Regence, Anthem, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are not currently able to accept Oregon Health Plan (OHP). Before you begin care, you also have the right to a written Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs.
It means the way therapy is delivered assumes trauma may be present and is designed not to repeat it. Practically: you're in charge of the pace, your therapist explains what they're doing and why, nothing is forced, and building a sense of safety comes before processing anything painful.
That's a conversation, not a checkbox. EMDR helps many people with single-incident and longer-standing trauma, and it isn't the right starting point for everyone. A consultation with Sarah is the honest way to find out, and if a different approach fits you better, we'll say so.

Yes. Many clients do trauma work, including EMDR, by secure video. Your therapist will talk with you about whether starting in person or online makes the most sense for your situation. Telehealth is available to anyone located in Oregon.
Start with a relaxed 20 to 30 minute video consultation. You decide what to share and when.
